Civilization 6

Civilization VI, released in 2016 by Firaxis Games and published by 2K, is the sixth mainline entry in Sid Meier's landmark 4X strategy series. Players choose a historical leader - from Teddy Roosevelt to Cleopatra to Tokugawa - and guide their civilization from the ancient era through to the modern age. Victory can come through domination, science, culture, religion, or diplomacy, and every path demands a fundamentally different approach to city building, research, and foreign policy.

The defining mechanical shift in Civilization VI is the district system. Where previous entries stacked all development inside a single city tile, Civ 6 physically spreads civilization outward across the map. Campuses, Holy Sites, Entertainment Complexes, and Industrial Zones each occupy their own tile and receive bonuses based on adjacent terrain and improvements. This forces players to think spatially about city planning in a way no prior entry required, and it gives the map a lived-in, visual texture that reflects each player's strategic priorities.

Civilization VI received two major expansions - Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm - that added governors, loyalty mechanics, climate change, and an entirely reworked diplomatic victory condition. The New Frontier Pass further extended the game with eight additional civilizations and new gameplay systems. The result is one of the deepest and most replayable entries in the series, with a breadth of content that rewards hundreds of hours of exploration.
